Who were the Celts?
Evidence of the Celtic peoples date back to the 2nd millennium BC where, roughly 150 distinct tribes, grew to dominate most of North-Central Europe and often clashed with the Roman Empire. They were known for the tall stature, pale skin, and savagery in battle.

Is the correct pronunciation “Keltic” or “Seltic?”
The term “Celt” comes from the Greek word Keltoi meaning barbarian. Since no soft c sound exists in greek, Celt and Celtic should be pronounced with the hard k sound.

Where does the soft “c” pronunciation come from?
The British empire decided to change the pronunciation of words derived from Greek and Latin. One of those changes was the hard k sound became a soft s sound. Thus, you have the Boston “S”eltics and the Glasgow “S”eltics. Many believe that they would like to keep this pronunciation exclusively for sport teams as there is clearly nothing to link them to the noble savagery and furor of the original Celts.
